Beacon Certificate of AchievementICT - Module 4 - Advanced InternetThe fourth module of the BCA for ICT is based on the development of the skills needed to create websites. The early part of the module involves the building and uploading of some simple 'html' websites, which will benefit from features such as shared borders and cascading style sheets. (More advanced pupils may also learn how to input pre-written "dhtml" code to create slideshows, etc.) Stress will again be placed upon the techniques, and rules, for making sites that work correctly, rather than upon the look and feel of these sites. In the second half the end of the module, pupils will create a "personal portfolio" website. This is expected to contain artwork, creative writing, photos of DT projects, videos that the owner filmed and edited., etc. At the conclusion of the module, pupils will be able to:

Lesson OutlinesThe module is based on nine 35 minute lessons. The first four lessons are based around the development of pupil's skills. Lesson 1 Recap of all skills learnt in Module One. Creation of a new web folder for a "Beacon Light Houses" site. Creation of pages for each of the four houses. Inclusion of images of the lighthouses taken from the Internet. Lesson 2 Introduction to shared borders. Customisation of MS FrontPage to allow shared borders. Creation of a new web folder for a "My Family" site. Demonstration of use of shared borders. Introduction to cascading style sheets. Implementation of these on websites. Lesson 3 Further practice using shared borders and cascading style sheets. Time permitting, pupils will be introduced to the structure of the "html" code behind the page, and look at methods for importing "dhtml" to enhance pages. (Visit www.dynamicdrive.com to see how dynamic-html can be used.) Lesson 4 Revision of all concepts covered. Creation of simple "consoles" site to practise all relevant skills. The final four lessons of the module involve pupils creating personal portfolio websites. Lesson 5 Discussion of task to produce a personal portfolio website, with particular reference to the possible content of the site. Discussion of ideas. Beginning of work on these individual sites. Lesson 6 Continuation of individual websites and uploading of these via FTP. Lesson 7 Continuation of individual websites and uploading of these via FTP. Lesson 8 Continuation and completion of individual websites and uploading of these via FTP. AssessmentIndividual Lesson Performance (8 marks) A pupil will be scored on their performance in each lesson and will receive a score of 0, 1 or 2.
NB: Absent pupils will receive a mark based on their average score over the other lessons. Assessment of Individual Website (12 marks) Maximum score of 12 is achieved by creating a website in which:
